The Andean Mountain range encompasses the borders of a number of different countries in the Latin American region. This includes both Peru and Ecuador, these two countries have come together under a UN project designed to promote the protection of the Andes.
The Andes is home to a number of different ecosystems. All of them are as diverse and complex as they come. Yet, despite the borders that separate them, many of these ecosystems have come under attack from the same threat – people’s dangerous social practices. In particular, many of these Andean ecosystems are threatened by the overexploitation of natural resources, deforestation, extractive industries, unsustainable agricultural practices as well as rangeland management practices. The use of toxic cleaning chemicals, such as those that are used for cleaning windows streak free. Aside from that, forest fires and erosion also factor into the situation.
In the face of these challenges, the governments of Peru and Ecuador have decided to work together in order to come up with ways to deal with the existing problems. This eventually led to an environmental Conservation agreement between the two states.
This just goes to show that even a problem as big as the Andean mountain range can be solved by people working together.
